Okay ... I give up. Yes, we do design and develop web sites.
Our primary focus is on the strategy and use of e-commerce.
However, we've been designing and developing web sites since '96 (yup from
the beginning).
And no - this site isn't a good example of what we do. Shoemaker's children
and all that jazz! Some of our past triumphs have included complex, fast
loading, specific position pages. Remember, this was in the days before tables
and CSS and all that good stuff. Most of those sites no longer work correctly
(one of the side effects of tables and CSS and all that good stuff).
Of course, now we are more involved with back-end development rather than
page design as the web becomes more capable and the professional designers begin
to move into the market.
Just to give you a little taste of some of the things we can do .... (forgive
me for using so many fan examples but they gave me a lot more freedom to express
myself than I'm used to).
This is Debt and Insolvency Counselling firm. I did not design the
layout/artwork. However, the website structure and all the PHP code
is designed and developed by myself.
One of my early websites. Some interesting things to look for are
the search forms on the members page and the e-mail form
submission on the join page. Note that they have since replaced
it with sites by other members (at least 3 by last count).
Have you ever had a client who wasn't satisfied ... and yet
wouldn't let you spend the time necessary to satisfy them? That's
what I feel like with my own site. However, I think I've finally
gotten a design for a splash page that I like. Not quite
your usual splash page this one is a cross between splash page
and home page. Check out the contents and contact us controls.
The design is a case of the shoemaker's children. But there are
two key elements to look at here. First off is the LANSA webring
controller. Chimes is written in JAVA as an applet. Second is the
news listing (it's on this page as well). The news listing itself
is the standard one provided by Moreover.com. However, I've
modified it to randomly select which news group to show (out of
about 20 I consider relevant). Press Refresh on your browser to
check this out. The changes are written in JavaScript.
Again I like the design for this one. It uses a number of graphic
elements in complex ways. Theoretically, it should take about 5
times longer to load than it does but my use of graphics has made
it very efficient. All graphics elements were designed and
created by myself. This was originally designed as part of a Star
Trek fan group's web pages.
Similar to the design in the links page. It is just as efficient.
Although it should be very slow to load, given the potential for
graphics sizes needed, it is actually quite fast. All graphics
elements were designed and
created by myself. This was originally designed as part of a Star
Trek fan group's web pages.
This is actually a much more complex design feat than it looks. To
allow updating of the links, each graphic associated with the
link is independent. Then all of them have to be combined. They
say that "you know when you're an expert when you can make
the complex look easy."
This is a very simple design developed as a proposal for a museum.
I like the design itself, nice, clean, simple. It draws the eye
to the centre and then stops it there.
We've written some articles about the web and various issues around
e-commerce:
But we haven't loaded them yet ... check back a little later!
